"We believe that by putting criminals and the crimes they commit under the spotlight, we have a better chance of protecting our children, loved ones and ourselves, from the influence of crime"

Walk Your Block

Walk your Block is intended to be a citizen centered initiative encouraging community residents to be more visible in their communities. Research has shown that crime is significantly reduced when community residents are visibly present and are actively involved on their streets. Your participation in this program is important in reducing crime in your neighbourhood. By simply taking five to ten minutes each day to walk around your block, you not only get some good exercise but may prevent a would be criminal from committing a crime and yourself or a neighbour becoming a victim.

This IS NOT a vigilante program or intended to create suspicion, rather the opposite. We encourage you to become familiar with your surroundings. Take the time to meet and greet your neighbours and become familiar with the homes and vehicles in your area. This way you will recognize strangers, notice when something is not quite right with a neighbours home, and be able to identify vehicles not normally in your area.

If you observe a crime in progress it is better to be a good witness than an injured victim. Always call 911 and be ready to provide an address and a good description of what you are observing.

By joining this program you will receive up to date information as it becomes available from the Edmonton Police Service regarding crime and crime prevention in your community.
