Celebrating Diversity and Community Safety at the Heritage Days Festival – August 3 – 5, 2024

Celebrating Diversity and Community Safety at the Heritage Days Festival – August 3 – 5, 2024
The Edmonton Heritage Festival is the world’s largest three-day multiculturalism celebration. The festival showcases a diversity of cuisine, entertainment, interpretive materials, and crafts worldwide.

The Edmonton Neighbourhood Watch Program Society (ENW) was thrilled to participate in the annual Heritage Days Festival on August 3-4, 2024, held at Borden Park. As one of the largest multicultural events worldwide, this festival showcases over 70 pavilions, representing nearly 100 countries. The event was a vibrant celebration of Canada’s diversity, with thousands of attendees enjoying the sights, sounds, and flavors from around the globe.

ENW was located in Hall “H” at the Seniors Rest Area and our booth became a hub for community members eager to learn about crime prevention and how ENW supports safe neighbourhoods across Edmonton. Staff and volunteers, stationed on shifts, welcomed festival-goers, answering questions, providing resources, and sharing ENW’s mission to promote safer communities.

Highlights and Impact:

  • Community Engagement: We connected with numerous attendees interested in our initiatives, from those looking to volunteer to individuals curious about becoming ENW Representatives for their neighbourhoods.
  • Prize Draw: Congratulations to Naol Dabala, the winner of our prize draw! Naol won an Anker MagGo Power Bank for iPhone and visited our office to claim his prize.
  • Crime Prevention Resources: ENW provided crime prevention materials to empower individuals to help maintain safe and vibrant communities.
  • Building Connections: The event was an excellent opportunity to discuss ENW’s programs and how these can be applied within various communities. We received many contacts from individuals interested in joining us at future events and meetings.

Although the final day, August 5, was canceled due to storm damage, the festival remained a fantastic success. We extend our gratitude to the Heritage Days organizers for a well-organized event and to everyone who stopped by to support our mission.

We’re excited to carry this momentum forward, creating a safer Edmonton, one neighbourhood at a time.
