Edmonton Neighbourhood Watch Attends Bent Arrow Culture Camp

Last week, members of the Edmonton Neighbourhood Watch had the incredible opportunity to participate in Day 1 of the Bent Arrow Culture Camp 2024. Hosted by Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society, this event was a journey into the heart of Indigenous culture and community spirit.

The Culture Camp immersed us in a rich tapestry of teachings, traditions, and experiences. We engaged in several Teachings that resonated with ancient wisdom and hands-on activities that deepened our understanding of Indigenous history and heritage.

One of the highlights was the welcoming atmosphere created by the Elders, Knowledge Keepers and Cultural Connectors who generously shared their wisdom with us. Their guidance not only enriched our knowledge but also fostered a deeper sense of respect and appreciation for Indigenous perspectives.

The camp also provided us with a platform to reflect on the importance of community and collaboration, acknowledgement of nature and animals, kindness and effective use of our 5 senses. Through meaningful discussions and interactive sessions, we explored the power of words and dance as a gratitude prayer.

Edmonton Neighbourhood Watch participating in the Bent Arrow Culture Camp was a significant step in our ongoing journey towards cultural awareness and inclusivity. It reinforced our commitment to fostering a safe and supportive environment for all community members, regardless of background or heritage.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the organizers, volunteers, and everyone who made this experience possible. Your dedication to preserving and sharing Indigenous culture is truly inspiring and has left a lasting impact on all of us.

We look forward to continuing our partnership with Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society and other Indigenous organizations in Edmonton, as we strive to promote harmony, understanding, and unity within our diverse community.
